Flying Over The City Of Lights With Sundance

I had always wanted to take an extensive tour of the much-acclaimed city of lights(Las Vegas) for a while. When I finally got the spare time to fulfill my desire, you could only imagine the kind of joy that was in my heart. I knew that if I wanted to get the best experience on my tour, I had to go for the aerial view. Even though this would be more expensive than any other option which is on the tour market, I knew I would be getting a good value for my money. Therefore, my first point of call was what tour company to go for and of the bunch, the services offered at Sundance Helicopters pulled me in. I opted for the Twilight City Tour which normally kicks off in the evening.

How to Do Vegas Beyond the Strip

Las Vegas is a city of contrasts. From the aesthetic pastiches of the architecture to the geological magnitude of the nature that literally surrounds it from every angle, you’re often moving between the absurd and the sublime.

Sitting in a massive dustbowl between Lake Mead and the Grand Canyon, Vegas is like a manmade mirage of noise and neon light. It can feel like you’re walking through a new era of history or cultural age just by crossing the street; from ancient Greece via Baroque Venice and Rococo France once minute to modern towers, sprawling, palatial and flanked in dancing fountains the next. The city really is as extra as it sounds. Yet somehow the combination of aesthetic pastiche, deep roots in mob culture and un-scalable geography surrounding you creates this energy of insatiable lawlessness everywhere you go.

Sundance Helicopters Stresses Safety

Since being purchased by Air Methods in December 2012, Las Vegas-based heli-tour operator Sundance Helicopters has focused sharply on safety programs and fleet renewal. This year Sundance became the nation’s first heli-tour Tops (tour operators program of safety) member to implement the FAA’s aviation safety action program (ASAP) and maintenance safety action program (MSAP).

The voluntary, self-reporting programs are designed to identify and reduce safety concerns stemming from operational deficiencies, non-compliance with regulation, deviations from company policy and unusual events. Each report is investigated and corrective action is determined and taken per FAA Advisory Circular 120-66B. Archie Gray, senior vice president of Air Methods, said, “The bottom line in helicopter operations and in aviation is safety. Sundance’s ASAP and MSAP participation gives us an opportunity to work collegiately with the FAA to promote safety.”

Nearly 42 visitors came to Las Vegas last year to teeter around in seven-inch heels, wait in line for a celeb sighting outside a mega-club, drink yard-long margaritas (in a pool, while gambling), and finally hop on the plane back to sober reality. No one can beat this city for crazy fun; but what many people don’t know is that it’s also the perfect base for a day-long adventure in nature. Festival Vets Never Dreamed of This Bougie New Way to Get to Coachella

In the old days — say a decade ago, or more — Coachella used to be a somewhat harrowing natural environment. You’d walk a mile from a dusty parking lot (it was the land before Uber after all) in sweltering heat just to get anywhere near the music in Indio. You didn’t look cute — nor remotely Instagram ready — by the time you got there. And that was the fun of it, right?

Well, now things are (ahem) quite a bit different. Many feather-headdressed Los Angelenos make their way to the desert with no intention of seeing any music at all — save for some incidental DJs at the coolest parties in Palm Springs.

Helicopter pilot dishes on years flying filmmakers around Las Vegas

The coolest thing that has ever happened in a helicopter piloted by Tom Schaus was not when Steven Soderbergh operated a camera from the passenger seat during the making of “Ocean’s Eleven.” It was when he flew Rene Angelil and Celine Dion privately for a celebration. “Rene Angelil called me up and asked me to take him and Celine for a birthday event, and I arranged for three other helicopters to take the rest of the party up to the Grand Canyon,” Schaus said, recalling one of his favorite trips in 47 years of piloting helicopters.

Six Ways to feel like a rock star in Vegas

With a revitalized downtown, top concerts and shows, an incredible dining scene, high-end shopping and ultra-luxurious accommodations, a trip to Vegas is all about the pursuit of pleasure in a place where almost nothing is off limits. I high-five Lucky Cat, a nine-foot-tall silver sculpture in the Cosmopolitan, and the maneki-neko—both larger-than-life Vegas flamboyance and beloved Asian talisman—spits out my fortune, telling me to meander. Given that I’m in fast-paced and luck-obsessed Sin City, I take it as a sign to explore another side of the Strip during Chinese New Year amidst crimson paper lanterns, dancing dragons, symbolic menus and inventive cocktails. Las Vegas celebrates this holiday, known simply as CNY, like nowhere else in North America, pulling out the red carpet, quite literally.

The Best Sights to Bet on in Las Vegas

If you’d told me 10 years ago that my parents would become my best friends, I would’ve laughed, and then cried at such a depressing thought. A college freshman back then, I wanted nothing more than to be my own person and get far away from them. We don’t think the same or live life the same way, and that was always a great source of conflict.

I’m not quite sure when that changed, but I am forever grateful that it did.

Over the past decade, I’ve watched my mother graciously suffer through a stem-cell transplant and chemotherapy for multiple myeloma before going into remission, only to need a hip replacement the following year. To celebrate God’s healing of her body, I convinced my parents to join me in Paris to celebrate their 30th anniversary. That amazing trip started the fun tradition of me third-wheeling their anniversary trips. Two years back on their 31st, they joined me here in Manhattan, and I led them on the ultimate tour of New York City.
