Las Vegas, (November 17 ,2016) — – Sundance Helicopters, Inc., one of the top rated experiential tour companies in Las Vegas, has partnered with the Clark County School District (CCSD) to offer complimentary tours of Grand Canyon West to CCSD students and teachers. This is part of Sundance Helicopters’ initiative to support and give back to the community they’ve called home for more than 30 years.

Grand Canyon West (GCW) is owned and operated by Grand Canyon Resort Corporation(GGRC), the operating entity of The Hualapai Native American Tribe. GCRC is also supporting this initiative by providing complimentary lunches as well as access to their popular Skywalk, a horseshoe shaped glass bridge suspended nearly 4,000 feet above the canyon floor.

These CCSD/Sundance field trips will begin in November and continue throughout the academic school year. Starting on November 29, students will be transported by bus between Las Vegas and Grand Canyon West for this full-day adventure. CCSD teachers will apply to participate in the field trips by creating lesson plans focused on Nevada Academic Content Standards. A committee of district leaders will help select the applications that best address the CCSD curriculum and standards.

After arriving at GCW, students will have access to all points of interest:

  • Eagle Point and the Skywalk where students can peer over the rim of the Grand Canyon and will be able to walk on the horseshoe shaped glass bridge of the Skywalk suspended nearly 4,000 feet above the canyon floor.
  • Guano Point to see breathtaking panoramic views of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River, and where they can see the remnants of a historic tram that stretched 8,800 feet across the Canyon to a guano mine.
  • Hualapai Ranch where students are transported to a historically re-created wild west village and taught about early westward expansion and Hualapai culture.

“We are fortunate to have a partner like Sundance, who is willing to fully support experiential learning opportunities for CCSD students and teachers,” said CCSD School-Community Partnership Program Coordinator Cheryl Wagner. “These field trips are a valuable extension of classroom learning and will also help to inspire our students to become lifelong learners and stewards of our lands.”

“Sundance is all about enriching lives by providing awe-inspiring experiences, and what better way than by showing these kids first–hand the beauty of the Grand Canyon and the culture of the Hualapai Tribe” said Jim Greiner, President of Sundance Helicopters. “We’re honored to be partnering with CCSD and GGRC, and hope that these experiences positively influence the lives of these students.”

"There is no experience in all the world like Grand Canyon West and Grand Canyon Skywalk and we're thrilled to be able to share the West Rim and Hualapai culture with the students and teachers of Clark County," said Brian Siegel, the CEO of Grand Canyon Resort Corporation. "From the Canyon's beauty to learning about Hualapai tribal traditions and history, this field trip is more than one day's adventure. It's a learning experience. Our team cannot wait to play host these young people and their teachers."
